Get Involved

We welcome and encourage all PS/IS 187 parents and guardians to join the PTO community in helping to make the school year as fulfilling for the kids as possible. With so many ways to get involved, there is something for everyone.

The PTO monthly meetings are a great way to learn about new and ongoing initiatives, hear from the school teachers and administrators, ask questions, contribute ideas, and have direct impact on PTO decisions. The meetings take place 3rd or 4th Thursday of the month, in the School Auditorium. Childcare with pizza is provided. Check the calendar for up-to-date information.

Through the annual Dues Drive, the PTO is able to provide funding for professional development, field trips, classroom materials, after-school programming, and various other programs. Donations, of any amount, are completely voluntary, tax deductible, and greatly appreciated!

Visit the Dues Drive page to learn more or make an online contribution.

Do you have a particular interest or set of skills you’d like to contribute? Take a look at our list of events and initiatives and consider joining a planning committee to help bring these fantastic activities to the kids. Enjoy gardening? The Garden committee might be for you! Want to advance STEM at school? We have a STEM committee!

Have an idea for a new initiative/committee you'd like to start?

Tell us all about it!

Class Parent Representative(s) - one or two designated parents in each class - provide an essential communication link between the class teacher, parents, and PTO. Responsibilities may include: organizing seasonal parties, arranging volunteers for field-trips, or passing along important information to the parents about class/school events and activities.

Movie Night, Kinder Garden Project, Tree Sale, School-a-Palooza, Book Fair, KidFit...these are just some of the events that take place during the school year. Consider volunteering, making an in-kind donation, or joining the planning committee.

Throughout the year, CPR(s) will reach out with many opportunities to get involved. Plan a party, chaperone a trip, send in supplies.

Fill out the class contact form at the start of the year to stay in the loop.

Want to have an even greater impact? Consider taking a leadership role by joining the PTO Executive Board or School Leadership Team (SLT).
