IN THE NEWS:![]() DESTINATION DIVERSITY • FEBRUARY, 2021
Black history is American history, but Black History Month provides the necessary opportunity to dig deeper. Every February, our school supports students as they learn more, discover cultural impacts, and follow movements through to the present day. This year the school celebrated “the arts” surrounding Black History. There were opportunities to: recreate art from famous Black artists; learn about Jazz with Lincoln Center musicians; watch movies focusing on amazing individuals and events; read books; participate in discussions; and learn valuable historic lessons. The February newsletter reflects some of the activities that went on throughout the month and it is not lost on us how our young ones are embracing diversity and giving this month the respect it deserves. Enjoy. Disfrutar. Each year, the PS/IS 187 Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) holds a Dues Drive, which makes a tremendous difference to PS/IS 187. Last Year, over $20,000 was raised with your generous donations separately from our other fundraisers. These funds went towards educational enhancement grants, field trips, after-school programming, and the gardening program. Any amount you can donate to the PS/IS 187 PTO makes a difference, and every donation is now tax deductible. And remember, regardless of whether or how much you give, every parent or guardian of a PS/IS student is automatically a member of the PTO. Because together, we can do more!
