The School Leadership Team (SLT) is a group of people who develop educational policies for the school, make sure there are resources to support those policies, and play an important role in school-based decision-making. The School Leadership Team is comprised of the School Principal, PTO President, and an equal number of PTO-elected parents and faculty members (one of the faculty members must be a United Federation of Teachers representative).
COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATION PLAN (CEP)
SLT's primary responsibility is to formulate the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) and make sure the school's budget is aligned to meet the goals outlined within. Every public school in NYC is required to have both the Comprehensive Education Plan and a Student Leadership Team. You can access the PS/IS187 Comprehensive Education Plan via the Department of Education's iPlan Portal here
SLTs must use consensus-based decision making. In this type of process, all participants contribute to and help shape the final decision. SLT meetings are held once a month on a Wednesday morning from 7:00am-8:15am in the Library (dates are tentative pending approval by the administration). Meetings are public and open to all parents. Only members of the SLT may speak during meetings, but outside comments may be raised by proxy.

JOINING THE SLT TEAM
Each PTO-elected SLT parent representative commits to a two-year term. At the end of the term, elections are held to determine who will fill the position next (individuals can run for re-election as well). If an SLT member is no longer able to carry on the duties and must step away from the post part-way through the term, elections are held to fill the remainder of the term (not the full two years). If you are interested in being an SLT parent, pease email firstname.lastname@example.org.
